Reflexology is a gentle and natural holistic therapy which aims to balance the mind body and spirit using the hands and feet as a map of the whole body. As a natural therapy reflexology only uses the techniques of therapeutic touch to bring results. It seeks to work with the body's natural self healing abilities.
A common misunderstanding of reflexology is that it diagnoses disease or attempts to treat or cure. Reflexology is a treatment of the bodies energetic self, encouraging self healing through balance. It recognises that there are correspondences between points on the feet and the hands and in the organs, system and structures in the body. Reflexology induces a deep state of relaxation, a large majority of my clients fall asleep in the chair! As stress is associated with around 75% of disease this can be no bad thing! (possible link to an article about the parasympathetic nervous system) Although one treatment can be very effective, the cumulative effect of regular treatments and 'time out' is great.
Reflexology is a greatly flexible treatment in that it is done with the client sitting or laying down, fully clothed, this can be done anywhere that is convenient and comfortable to the client, and is particularly useful to somebody who is bed bound or lacks mobility.
Reflexology is an hour long treatment, allow 30 minutes extra on first treatment for consultation (free of charge) and 10 minutes either side of following treatments for catch up and relaxation!
