Pregnancy is a time of great joy and excitement, and a time for a mother to really bond with the child she is carrying. Unfortunately it can also cause all sorts of physical aches and pains, sickness, tiredness and many other less than enjoyable side effects! As your pregnancy continues and your stomach grows, the pressure and strain on your back and joints will only get worse. Having a massage can greatly alleviate these pains, is soothing to the body and mind, and lets face it, if anyone deserves a massage it is a mum to be!
Stress can be a big factor during pregnancy, anxiety over labour, parenting and health of both yourself and your baby can all add up. Not only will the physical act of massage help with lessening stress, but I can also give tips on how massage can help during labour, I can give lessons to your partner in simple techniques that can help throughout pregnancy and labour, and be a good source of information should you wish it on nutrition, exercise, and reading material to help you at all stages.
Pregnancy massage involves a great deal of flexibility, sensitivity and knowledge on behalf of the practitioner, a specialised type of therapeutic bodywork focusing on the unique needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dynamic changes of pregnancy. The massage I give will leave you feeling relaxed yet energised, circulation will be improved, which is good for both yourself and the baby, water retention eased, muscular tension gone, and a general feeling of well being returned!
As a one off treatment it is a well deserved treat, or a course of treatments throughout the pregnancy and beyond can be arranged with specialist support given for labour and post natal needs, a free partner massage class is given with any courses of 5 or more treatments booked.
Generally pregnancy massage is 90 minutes, but this can be shortened or lengthened to suit the individual.
